I remember seeing the play “Into the Woods”, when my sisters worked on it at their High School. I have to say this was definitely a great transition from stage to film. Even weeks after this movie came out, I still hear people talk about how great it was when they went to see it over Christmas Break. The audience could tell that the producers put a lot of thought into who would be a great person for each role. The acting and the singing were great in the movie, the movie was very funny, and it is a modern twist on the Grimm Fairy Tales.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the Grimm Fairy Tales. It ties the stories of our favorite classic fairy tales of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel into a story about a baker and his wife who desperately long for a child. The setting of the story is mostly in the woods, and each fairytale character was forced to go to the woods for different reasons. However, the evil witch mostly focuses the story on the baker and his wife who were under a curse where they could not have children. The witch sent them into the woods to find three items she needed for a potion she was trying to make.
The acting in this movie was phenomenal!! All big name actors were played in this movie, which should tell anyone that the acting would be great. Anna Kendrick is a great actress; her most memorable performance was in the movie, “Pitch Perfect” where she portrayed Beca. However, I believe her performance in this movie might make this movie her most memorable performance. She portrayed Cinderella, and the way she acted I felt like I was in her shoes because she was that strong of an actress. Johnny Depp played the Big Bad Wolf, in this movie, and he gave me the chills, because he played the part so well it was incredibly chilling. Meryl Streep played the evil witch and she did an amazing job in that role. She was so evil, and you would not know that it was her, because her makeup was so well done that she was not even recognizable. Chris Pine and Emily Blunt portrayed the baker and the baker’s wife, and they also did an extraordinary job in their performance.
This movie was also incredibly funny. The Big Bad Wolf, and the evil witch were not only chilling, but they were also hilarious. However, the best scene in the movie was when both princes were singing the song “Agony”. The audience was dying of laughter through the song lyrics, the choreography and the acting.
I would definitely recommend going to see the movie. Honestly, if anyone has not the movie go out and see it today, or order it for when it is in the stores so you can own the movie. It is definitely worth the money.
